Join us for an in-person workshop series celebrating the beauty and preservation of pressed plants. Participants will learn how to start a personal herbarium and transform pressed native plants into meaningful wall art.

Together, we will explore techniques for collecting, pressing, and preserving native plants from the park. This presentation will be led by Dr. Gitta Pat, a native plant enthusiast, urban and community planner, and founder of the research consulting small business Timesel27 LLC.

Join Stewards of the Wild for an exclusive tour and wildlife survey event at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge on August 1, 2026!

Less than 30 minutes from downtown Fort Worth and sitting at a crossroads of several ecoregions, the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge (FWNCR) is a natural area consisting of preserved forests, prairies, and wetlands and spans more than 3,600 acres. One of the largest city-owned nature centers in the country, FWNCR is an incredible place for the community to learn about our wild things and wild places.

Each summer, FWNCR biologists conduct alligator and white-tailed deer surveys to gather valuable data that helps monitor local biodiversity and guide management and conservation strategies. Hosted by the SCC Game Species Subcommittee, we invite you to join Stewards from across the state for a day of hands-on education and experience. We'll learn directly from FWNCR staff and biologists managing the property, tour the wetlands by boat (shorebirds, alligators, and other wildlife), and take part in a white-tailed deer survey after the sun goes down. We also hope to see the iconic Bison herd.

Please take note this event occurs in the afternoon and evening. We will provide you with dinner and hydrating drinks, but lodging is not included. While the wetlands tour and survey activity will take place outdoors, we will make use of an air-conditioned pavilion for the other portions of the event. There is plenty of great lodging in Fort Worth. Please let us know if you need recommendations.

Limited spots are available! Registration is currently open to SOTW members, and may open to non-members if spots remain.

We encourage anyone to sign up that:

Wants to experience the a Texas ecoregion where forest transition to great plains as it was before development in the early 20th century
Is curious about wildlife management and how data informs conservation decisions
Is excited to participate in a night-time wildlife survey (Note: no experience required. Participants will potentially ride in UTVs to conduct the survey, which may not be fully enclosed.)

Dove season opens September 1; let's knock the rust off before the birds fly.

Join BCS Stewards of the Wild for our Dove Season Warm-Up at Blackwood Sporting Co. — a morning of clays and some of the best wingshooting practice you'll get before the opener. Skeet's fast crossing targets are great dove prep, and experienced members will be on the line to help everyone break more.

What's included: clays, a snack during the shoot, and a drink afterward at Blackwater Draw Brewing Co. back in Bryan.

What to bring: your shotgun, target shells, eye and ear protection, closed-toe shoes, a hat, and water.

Join Stewards of the Wild for the 13th Annual All-Stewards Dove Hunt on September 11-12 in Albany, Texas!

Presented by

The Annual All-Stewards Dove Hunt is Stewards of the Wild's signature outdoor experience and the largest and most popular annual event. The two-day program includes: two hunts, opportunities to learn from conservation professionals, fellowship with other outdoorsmen and women, two meals (including a gourmet dinner by acclaimed chef Jesse Griffiths), lodging, live music, sporting clays, and a festive atmosphere round out the experience.

The All-Stewards Dove Hunt helps ensure TPWF can continue to deliver impactful, year-round conservation leadership programming to members across Texas. Watch this short video from a recent All-Stewards Dove Hunt to see how it’s unlike any other hunt in Texas.

Date & Location: September 11-12 in Albany, Texas

What's included: Two dove hunts (afternoon and morning), lodging for one night, a Stewards-curated swag bag, meals including dinner by Dai Due's Chef Jesse Griffiths, unlimited sporting clays, drinks, and more. Everything included, this event is a $1,500 value.

Note to new or novice dove hunters: We love to host new and novice hunters! If you are a new or novice dove hunter and are not attending with friends who can effectively guide you, we will pair you with a mentor. You will be asked if you require a mentor during registration.

Note to ALL hunters: This event hosts a large number of hunters, so the fields may host more hunters than you are accustomed to. That said, please keep in mind your distance from others and only shoot birds at an elevated angle (90+ degree angle) to avoid peppering others across the field. Hunters should wear eye and ear protection at all times in the field. We also recommend wearing long pants and sturdy boots.

Austin Chapter Teal Hunt - September 18-20 (Friday, September 18, 2026)

The Austin Stewards of the Wild chapter will be hosting a weekend duck hunt at the amazing Provident City Hotel just outside of El Campo, TX for members only. We will have Saturday and Sunday morning guided duck hunts over Ducks Unlimited ponds right there on the ranch.

This event will include dinner both Friday and Saturday as well as snacks in the morning before the hunt, Saturday lunch will not be included. We will also provide some beverages but also encourage everyone to bring your own.

Saturday afternoon, we will have the skeet shooting range set up to allow folks to hone in their shooting skills. We also may have the ability to do some afternoon dove hunting Saturday afternoon so plan accordingly! The ranch owner will be on site with us who can speak a bit about the history of this hotel as well as give us a little tour of the ranch for those who are interested.

Location: El Campo, TX – private ranch just outside of El Campo at the Provident City Hotel

Cost: $625 – includes lodging, two guided duck hunts, Friday and Saturday dinner and morning snacks. (tip not included)

We are not able to acomodate children or personal dogs at this event. Guides will provide hunting dogs.

The Dallas Chapter is helping covering some of the cost so that we can get as many youth involved as possible. Please note that release waivers will be required for parents to sign prior to hunting. Minors (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian for this hunt. Minors who are not accompanied by a parent/legal guardian will not be allowed to hunt.

Important details:All adult hunters must have completed hunters safety education prior to the hunt. Please note this is not a first time hunt for adults, adults attending should be experienced and have completed hunters ed. Waivers will be provided for adults and children and a parent or legal guardian must sign waivers for his/her minor child(ren) that is attending. Hunters education is also required for children aged 9 and older and must be completed prior to the hunt. Children without a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian will not be allowed to participate in the hunt.

Statewide Parent/Child Big Game Hunt: Zavala County (Friday, October 02, 2026)

SOTW Statewide Parent/Child Big Game Hunt

Who is this hunt for? Active SOTW members who are experienced hunters with a child 10 years or older who has at least two hunting experiences. All participants (including children) must complete hunter education and obtain a valid Texas hunting license prior to the hunt.

What is included? Lodging is provided. Includes three rifle, blind-based (ground or elevated) hunts throughout the weekend. Experts will join us to provide conservation, habitat, wildlife, and hunting education, including shooting practice at the range, animal tracking practice, and butchering demonstrations. All meals will be provided by an expert game chef.

Target Species: White-tailed doe, hogs, and potentially javelina or others

When: 10/2/26 @ 12 p.m. - 10/4/26 @ 11 a.m.

Where: Beautiful South Texas Plains ~20,000 acre ranch in Zavala County (ranch location disclosed to registrants before hunt date)

When your registration is confirmed, TPWF staff will provide you with further hunt details, a gear list, and various forms/tasks to complete ahead of the hunt.

Cancellation Policy: Because this hunt is truly one of a kind and highly sought after, we kindly ask that you fully commit to your attendance. About the SOTW Mentored Hunting Initiative

There is a growing need to develop new hunters in the state of Texas. The Stewards of the Wild are well positioned to engage individuals age 21-45 and transition them into new hunters. Thank you to our SOTW Mentored Hunting Initiative Presenting Sponsor, SITKA Gear, for making these hunts possible.

The Stewards of the Wild Mentored Hunting Initiative provides novice young adult hunters a safe and inclusive environment in which to learn about habitat and species conservation, ethical hunting/fishing laws and practices, land and water access, and the important connections between these issues. Mentored experiences feature a variety of hunting styles including dove, duck, quail, and big game hunts over diverse Texas landscapes on mostly private land. The Mentored Hunting Initiative equips participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to continue hunting in Texas, ultimately growing the number of ethical hunters in the state and increasing awareness about the interdependence between hunting and conservation.

According to 2024 data from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the number of paid hunting license holders in Texas is just over 1.1 million people—that is, 3.6% of our state’s population. By comparison, the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) reported that in 2022, 4.4% of the U.S. population ages six and up went hunting at least once. The percentage of Americans that hunt is the smallest it has ever been. OIA also reported that in 2022 most hunting in the U.S. occurred on private land, with 44% exclusively on private land and 41% on a combination of private and public land. As a result, a growing number of Texans are reaching young adulthood with a limited understanding of our state’s conservation issues and scant exposure to the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Stewards of the Wild seeks to reverse this trend in Texas through the Mentored Hunting Initiative.

Statewide South Texas Weekend (Thursday, October 15, 2026)

Mentored Co-Ed Turkey Hunt

Who is this hunt for? Active SOTW members who have some hunting experience, but are new to turkey hunting. All participants must complete hunter education and obtain a valid Texas hunting license prior to the hunt.

What is included? Lodging is provided. Includes three hunts throughout the weekend (ground or blind). Experts will join us to provide conservation, habitat, wildlife, and hunting education, including shooting practice at the range, animal tracking practice, and butchering demonstrations. All meals will be provided by an expert game chef.

Where: Beautiful Cross Timbers/Prairie ranch in Bosque County (ranch location disclosed to registrants before hunt date)
