Join Stewards of the Wild at the Texas Capitol on April 30!

This event is open to all SOTW members and hosted by the Statewide Conservation Committee. Join us at the Texas Capitol to learn about the inner workings of conservation-related legislation and the Texas conservation funding model from legislative experts and staff.  The event will conclude with a full tour of the Capitol building.

Guest Speakers

  • Sam Stone, Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, who works closely with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department legislative staff.
  • Will Oliver, who serves as Representative Denise Villalobos' Chief of Staff. Rep. Villalobos (District 34) sits on the Committee on Natural Resources and is navigating Texas' involved water issues.
  • Lauren McCarthy, who serves as Representative Will Metcalf's Chief of Staff. Rep. Metcalf (District 16) is the Chair of the Committee on Culture, Recreation, & Tourism.
  • Additional speakers TBA.

  • 10-11:15 a.m. Hear from special guest speakers Sam Stone (TPWF), Will Oliver, Lauren McCarthy and others!
  • 11:30 a.m. Official Capitol Tour
  • 12:30 p.m. Departure (the group may grab lunch together nearby, but this is optional)

Stewards of the Wild, Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation’s conservation leadership program, equips emerging leaders aged 21 to 45 with opportunities to actively participate in the stewardship of Texas’ wild things and wild places by providing education, networking, and outdoor experiences.
